Continuing Education Seminar for P.E.s Focuses on Construction Design
TARRYTOWN, NY – Some 40 Professional Engineers attended the Construction Advancement Institute of Westchester & Mid-Hudson’s annual continuing education seminar last month entitled “Solutions for Today’s Construction Engineering Designs.”

The day-long program on June 21 at the Tappan Hill Mansion featured lectures by a panel of leading industry specialists on subjects that included high-performance concrete, BIM, 3-D modeling and steel design, underground geotechnical problems/solutions, the change of piles, reducing engineers’ liabilities and OSHA safety updates.
Ross J. Pepe, executive director of the CAI, served as program moderator and introduced each of the seven guest speakers. They were: William S. Phelan, senior vice president of Marketing & Technical Services of The Euclid Chemical Company; Michael J. Squarzini, P.E., managing principal of Thornton Tomasetti; Alfred H. Brand, PE, consultant to Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers; Andrew J. Burns, PE, vice president of engineering and estimating of Underpinning & Foundation Skanska; Thomas McCarthy, compliance assistance specialist of US Department of Labor/OSHA; Thomas H. Welby, Esq., P.E., and Anthony Carlucci, Esq., both of the law firm Welby, Brady & Greenblatt LLP.
Since its inception in 2010, CAI’s continuing education program for P.E.s has served some 280 New York State-licensed engineers who have earned a total of 1,680 PDHs (Professional Development Hours) toward license renewals.
