“SOLUTIONS FOR TODAY’S CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING DESIGNS

     TARRYTOWN – Over 40 professional engineers attended the Construction Advancement Institute of Westchester & Mid-Hudson’s annual continuing education seminar at the Tappan Hill Mansion this month. The daylong program featured lectures on many subjects including High-Performance Concrete, BIM, 3-D Modeling and Steel Design, Engineering for History & Safety, Piles and Reducing Engineering Liabilities.

The afternoon field trip, which included 150 industry officials, was on a Hudson River ferry under and around the old span of the Tappan Zee Bridge and many of the barges that are part of the $3.9 billion construction program now underway.  The guest speaker was Brian Conybeare of the Office of the Governor of the State of New York.  The first span of the new twin-span bridge is scheduled to open in 2016, and the new bridge should be complete in 2018.  The bridge is being designed and built by Tappan Zee Constructiors, LLC (TZC), a consortium of leading design, engineering and construction firms.

150 ENGINEERS, CONTRACTORS ENJOY TECHNICAL STUDY OF NEW TZ BRIDGE

           PIERMONT, NY – As motorists and shoreline visitors witness the rise of the new Tappan Zee Bridge in the Hudson River, some 150 industry officials, including nearly four dozen P.E.s, visited the construction project by ferry on June 24 as part of a technical study tour.  The Construction Advancement Institute engaged a commuter ferry to maneuver under and around the old span and many barges that are part of the $3.9 billion construction program now underway.

The first span of the new twin-span bridge is scheduled to open in 2016, and the new bridge should be complete in 2018.  The bridge is being signed and built by Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC (TZC), a consortium of leading design, engineering and construction firms, including Fluor, American Bridge, Granite, and Traylor Brothers, along with key design firms HDR, Buckland & Taylor, URS and GZA.  TZC is working closely on the project with a team of employees from the New York State Thruway Authority and the State Department of Transportation.
