TARRYTOWN, NY—More than two dozen building professionals gathered for a half-day seminar to explore various masonry topics on Oct. 10 here in Westchester. The presentations focused on masonry concepts for an audience of engineers, contractors and construction managers.
Among the attendees were 21 building inspectors and code enforcement officers, six architects and eight construction management employees at the program “Masonry Morning,” which was sponsored by the Construction Advancement Institute of Westchester & Mid-Hudson Region and the International Masonry Institute at the DoubleTree by Hilton.
Four seminars, each worth one AIA (HSW)/NYSBOC learning unit, covered “Masonry Wall Bracing Standard Practices” and “Masonry Codes and Standards Update” by Cathleen Jacinto, PE, SE, and “Cold Weather Masonry” and “Masonry Jobsite Troubleshooting” by Sherry Hartel, AIA.
Ms. Jacinto, PE, SE, works for FORSE Consulting. She has 17 years of experience in the design industry as a structural engineer. A seasoned project manager, she collaborated on a variety of building design projects while at Thornton Tomasetti and T.Y. Lin International in Chicago..
Ms. Hartel, AIA, is the director of Industry Development and Technical Services for the International Masonry Institute. She provides design and technical assistance to architects, engineers, contractors, building owners and other construction professionals in upstate New York.
The International Masonry Training and Education Foundation provides training, certifications and continuing education programs.
Since 2010, the CAI has sponsored continuing education programs for architects and engineers toward license renewals.
